dc.description.abstract	The Tamil society had not granted any legal or social equality on par with men. They had to lead a dependent life. The duties of women in Tamil society were having its own political, social and economic variation. The women were generally confined to household duties and they had no place in political activities and economic pursuits. The Sangam literature describes the position of women in ancient Tamil society. The natural feminine qualities such as Achcham, Madam and Naanam were insisted in the Sangam literature	en_US
