THE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FACED BY RURAL WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN ERODE DISTRICT, TAMILNADU

Abstract

Rural women entrepreneurship is gaining importance in recent days in the wake of globalization and economic liberalization. Rural women accept challenging roles to meet their personal needs and become economically self-sufficient. The main objectives of the study were to ascertain the supporting services rendered by the government and financial institutions and to analyze the challenges faced by Rural Women Entrepreneurs. The study was conducted among seventy rural women entrepreneurs in Erode District using stratified random sampling method. Both primary and secondary data was used to meet the need of the study. The primary data collected through the questionnaire was analyzed using simple percentage analysis, two-way table, chi-square test and weighted average ranking method. It was found from the analysis that there is a close significant relationship between age and government scheme and policies. The respondents were also ranked personal and social aspects as their core issues in their career. It was also concluded that the mutual support from the government and the family will uplift their economic status of rural women.
