The nation is not only the big producer and consumer of spices but also a major player in international market, exporting the surplus and importing the deficit. Spices exports were up 16% in value to Rs. 4,880.56 crores during April- Dec 2010. This increase in the total value realization was mainly driven by a spurt in the price of spices in the global market.
